How to Use the CNC Project Cost Estimator

This free tool helps you estimate the cost of your CNC machining projects. Simply fill in the details below to get an instant estimate.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Project Details (Optional):

   • In the Project Name field, you can enter a name for your project if you want to keep track of different estimates.

2. Material Information:

   • Enter the Material Name (e.g., Aluminium, Wood, Plastic).
   • Input the Material Cost per Unit (£). This is the price you pay for one unit of your chosen material.
   • Select the appropriate Unit of Measurement from the dropdown menu (e.g., Square Meter, Kilogram, Sheet).
   • If your unit of measurement is based on size (like Square Meter or Cubic Meter), enter the Material Length, Material Width, and Material Thickness as needed.
   • Specify the Material Quantity you require for your project.
   • Optionally, you can enter a Material Waste (%) if you anticipate any material being unusable during the machining process.

3. Machine Time:

   • Provide your best estimate for the Estimated Cutting Time in both Hours and Minutes.
   • Enter the Hourly Machine Rate (£), which is the cost per hour for using the CNC machine.

4. Costs:

   • Input any fixed Setup Fee (£) associated with your project.
   • You can optionally include a Complex Setup Cost (£) if your project has intricate setup requirements.
   • Enter the Tooling Cost (£) for any specific tools needed for the job.

5. Labour Costs (Optional):

   • If you need to account for manual labour time, enter the number of Labour Hours.
   • Specify the Hourly Labour Rate (£) for the labour involved.

6. VAT, Overhead & Profit:

   • Check the Include VAT? box if you want to include Value Added Tax in your estimate. If you check this, a VAT Rate (%) field will appear where you can enter the applicable VAT percentage.
   • Enter the percentage you wish to allocate for Overhead (%).
   • Specify your desired Profit Margin (%) for the project.

7. Calculate Your Estimate:

   • Once you have filled in all the relevant information, click the “Calculate Cost” button.

8. View Your Cost Estimate:

   • The calculated costs will be displayed in the “Cost Estimate” section that appears below the form. This section breaks down the costs for materials, machine time, setup, tooling, labour, and also shows the subtotal, overhead, profit, VAT (if included), and the final Total Estimated Cost.

To print this estimate, you can use your browser’s print function (usually found under the “File” menu or by pressing Ctrl + P on Windows or Cmd + P on Mac).
