Use Different Focus Lenses In Your CO2 Laser

Did you know that Lasertech CO2 Lasers can use different lenses for different types of cutting & engraving?

CO2 Laser Cutter Tips

we’d love to hear your feedback or answer any questions you may have.

We stock lenses in three main varieties which are compatible with the whole Lasertech range.

As standard the Lasertech range comes with a 2” lens. Alternatives we stock are 1.5” and 3” lenses. Explanations of the benefits of each are below.

Each lens has a diameter of 20mm, and the 1.5”, 2”, and 3” refers to the focal height of the lens. The focal height is the distance between the bottom of the lens and the hottest point of the focused laser beam.

2” Lens

The 2” lens is standard with our Lasertech range and offers a good balance of cutting and engraving quality. Generally, the focal height for engraving will be measured to the top of the material, while when cutting the focal height should be measured to a point part way through the material to ensure the hottest area of the laser beam is evenly distributed.

1.5” Lens

The 1.5” lens is best suited to engraving material due to the finer resolution it can achieve. The lens can still complete cuts of thin material, however, the edges tend to show more of an angle than the lenses which are better suited to cutting (2” and 3”).

This lens may also require a shallow nozzle in order to have the air assist at a suitable distance from the material.

3” Lens

The 3” lens is primarily for cutting material. This expands the area that is hot enough to cut material to give a better finish. This is particularly useful for improving the finish of cuts on thicker materials.

The longer focal length leads to flatter edges as the angle is less severe compared to the shorter focal height lenses. The 3” lens isn’t well suited to engraving as the elongated focal length leads to an increased dot size.

Hopefully this quick look at the different types of lens options that are available to all of our CO2 Laser customers. You can also purchase from our store www.mantechparts.co.uk
