Homing Sequence for Your Spartan or Falcon CNC Router: A Beginner’s Guide
When powering on your Spartan or Falcon CNC Router, the first crucial task is the homing sequence (also known as zoning). This ensures the machine knows its precise starting position – Machine Zero, laying the foundation for accurate, reliable machining every time.
Knowing how to properly execute this routine not only improves performance but also reduces risks of crashes and misaligned cuts.
What Is a Homing Sequence?
Homing is how your CNC machine references its axes to find a repeatable, known position – usually the bottom-left corner, referred to as Machine Zero. The process follows a consistent axis order: Z first, then X, then Y.
Homing Sequence on NK105 G2 (Spartan)
To manually initiate homing on systems using the NK105 G2 controller, simply press the following buttons simultaneously on the hand‑held pendant:
- Z axis will lift first.
- X and Y axes will then move the gantry to the bottom-left position.
This completes the homing sequence, and your router is now at Machine Zero.
Homing Sequence on NK105 G3 (Falcon)
The homing sequence on the NK105 G3 (used in Falcon ATC and other Falcon models) mirrors the G2 process:
- Press the same simultaneous button combination.
- Z axis lifts first, followed by X and Y axes moving to bottom-left.
- Machine Zero is established.
Note: The controller system and process are essentially the same between G2 and G3.
Why This Order? Z → X → Y
This axis order is fundamental:
- Z axis lifts first, ensuring the spindle or tool clears any potential spindle interference or the workpiece before moving horizontally.
- X and Y then move, positioning the gantry safely and accurately.
Tips for Smooth Homing
Always power on safely: Ensure the machine is configured correctly, limit switches are functional, and emergency stops are disengaged.
Listen and observe: If axes stall or move unusually, there may be limit switch or mechanical issues.
Use visuals: In the article, include images of the exact button layout so operators can instantly recognise which buttons to press. (You’ll use actual button images—no need for text descriptions.)
How This Benefits You
Understanding and reliably executing the homing sequence ensures:
- Accurate positioning and repeatable setups.
- Reduced risk of crashes or tool damage.
- Faster and more confident job starts – great for professionals and newcomers alike.
