What “starter setting” means

A starter setting is a practical baseline for the first test cut. It is not a promise of finish, tool life or production performance because the complete machining setup changes the result.

Match the exact M-code

Use the public Mantech identifier — for example M001 — and verify the cutter family, diameter and flute count before entering any values.

Select the actual material

Choose the closest workbook material. “All” means the workbook provides one general starting value; it does not mean every grade or sheet construction behaves identically.

Run a controlled test cut

Use secure workholding and a suitable test piece. Set depth of cut, stepover, plunge and ramp values independently because they are not included in this workbook.

Inspect, listen and adjust

Check chip formation, edge quality, heat, noise and spindle load. Stop for burning, melting, chatter or unusual load, then change one parameter at a time.

No. They are starter settings for a controlled test cut. Production settings depend on the complete cutter, material, machine, workholding and extraction setup.

What is the M-code?

The M-code is the public Mantech tooling identifier used by this lookup. Use codes M001–M096 to distinguish cutters that may share a diameter or similar geometry.

Does the lookup provide depth of cut or plunge rate?

No. The source workbook provides spindle RPM, feed rate and chip load. Depth of cut, stepover, plunge and ramp settings must be established separately for the machine and job.

What does an “All” material setting mean?

It means the source workbook provides one general start point for that cutter rather than separate material rows. It does not remove the need for a material-specific test cut.
